Nasty full page ad in the Vancouver Sun today.

It's too big so I can't scan it or anything. Basically the Canadian Union of Professional Employees (COPE) Local 378 is trying to destroy Hetrz Car Rental at Vancouver International airport by directing all its customers to other rental agencies because Hertz is trying to cut down on overtime.

I blows my mind that they can claim Hertz is making it "hard to get by on part time" then in the very same page, sending Hertz customers to the competition - effectively destroying the jobs.

"Just go over to one of the other rental counters, show them your Hertz rate and see if they can beat it". I smell a decert app coming at Hertz, COPE knows it and now wants to kill the business because COPE is not going to get any dues from them.

It has been reported that if you are in possession of a twu credit card that you can accumulate frequent flyer points and use them for your own personal use. Now, somehow that seems like a perk that many are not aware of. Some members of our executive fly a lot!!
It wouldn't be surprising knowing this bunch of ner do wells, but if someone could shed some light on this it would be appreciated.

I can't put anything up? I have the canadian numbers but no idea how to get them to the site. I emailed them on the weekend but they are not here yet.

They are the canadian density for both public and private sector. they should be pretty easy to chart.

UFCW isn’t the union at Safeway it is the Retail Wholesale union. I found a couple of CA's on the Negotech site. I compared SuperStore to Safeway. UFCW vs RW, here’s the facts…

Wages at Superstore are lower than at Safeway. At SuperStore (UFCW 1400) starting wages, right now are $9.25/hr. you don’t get over $12 until you have worked 6500 hours so at 20hrs per week it would take over 6 years to get from $9.25 to $12.30. Don’t forget you will be paying Union dues for 6 years too. http://www.labourtalk.org/calculators/calculator/duesSelect/

I will get it into a chart or something like that and send it to you guys. I can't post things like that so I will email whatever I figure out.

I always wonder how much influence the unions lawyers have with all this litigation. If the union is getting bad advice and taking legal action and losing the vast majority of times then it would appear that the advice they are recieving is not so great. I would have expected around a 50% win ratio.

Of course from the lawyers position they collect their fee no matter what the outcome.

Of course the alternative might also be true. the lawyers might be begging the union to please please not take everything to court when there is no chance of winning and being overruled by the executive

The CCWIPP is the Canadian Commercial Workers Industrial Pension Plan. It is the beleaguered UFCW pension plan that leaves dispute and corruption behind it like a trail of rotten bread crumbs.

The Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) has been investigating this rotten corpse for years now and their ruling should come out today. As a taste of what is to come, here are the leaked Audit documents. I am hoping there are smarter people out there who could decipher and report a few of the more interesting details, other than huge losses.

                                      green1 - you are correct.

If anyone is in doubt simply consider the statement - "We should all be paid the same regardless of the quality of our work", to which the statement "You should be paid a high wage for doing a mediocre job" is not a far reach.

We, and our jobs exist in a competitive world - truth. The socialist view is not sustainable in this market. If you want a union for the benefit of "buying power" fly at `er, but it had best not make you uncompetitive.

well I am curious to know if the Steelworkers willbe at the table with them.

Perhaps their position is for the TWU exec to kickoff the negotiations and then demonstrate to their members that Telus is being unreasonable (again) and that big guns need to be brought in to deal with the situation and "voila!" here come the Steelworkers. they certainly are violent enough to make the old BCTel workers happy.

On the other hand the network is more automated than ever..... It is only hte poor slobs on BC's line plant that are going to do most of the suffering.

Can the table officers of the twu be called incompetent, repulsive morons? Yes and so can many of the flunkies known as business agents.
That is just an opinion though, but one many members have. It would be an embarrassment to be known for such atrocities as spending like fools in the times we are in now.
Our union the 'twu' is so far in debt right now (maybe to the tune of 3/4 of a million dollars). and they are trying to slime their way into another union (only for the table officers ) to secure positions. Hey if you were that other union wouldn't you want to have the dues that twu members are paying going into your pockets? It would be great to see another union gobble the twu up and spit it out. We were told the last regime was disloyal because they wanted to "investigate" the pros and cons of merging with another union. That was the boogy man that was thrown at us. Now look at these scum bags. Doing the same thing.but lining their pockets with our blood and sweat at the same time!

Not sure how many of you are from BC but here's your chance to have an opinion:

Quote:

On-line Survey

The process for conducting the Budget 2010 Consultation is outlined in sections 2 and 3 of the Budget Transparency and Accountability Act. This year the budget consultation paper, prepared by the Ministry of Finance, asks members of the public four questions on their budget priorities. The Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services has listed these questions in an on-line survey form to enable British Columbians to participate in the process.

In order to complete this on-line survey form, you must supply your name and current contact information — full address (including postal code), phone number and e-mail address. Forms containing incomplete contact information will not be reviewed by the Finance Committee.

Please note that the on-line consultation ends on Friday, October 23, 2009.

They ask that we read this PDF - 4 pages of content (5 pgs total) - http://www.fin.gov.bc.ca/budgetconsultation/budgetbrochure.pdf, then fill out the online questionnaire: https://www.leg.bc.ca/budgetconsultations/survey.asp

This is a post from weiser on Uncharted who asks a few good questions.

What the members should be looking closely at is the E-Board Minutes. The Gibster has a whack of power, but when it comes to spending the dough, he needs to run it past the E-Board.

Even though the E&T fund is a private entity not reviewable by the members, the E-Board could be sued by the members if they've not exercised their fiduciary duty. Going after Gib and Suzanne ain't the best way to fix this. Hauling the E-Board stooges before a judge is the best way to go. All that most union e-board members know is "vote like you're told and there are plenty of days off and lots of free trips and stays in posh hotels." However, they'll serve Gibby and Suzy up like yesterday's meatballs if they think that they'll have to pay a price for their gravy days.

I wonder where the money came from to pay the huge settlement the UFCW made with Finnamore to settle his wrongful termination grievance and the four-year "shut the f#$& up" agreement. How would anyone know if it came out of the "education and training" fund? The UFCW did learn a lesson, but is that really what is meant by education and training? Oh, the secrets that lie within private funds and corporations run by local unions.
Quote:
STUDENT BENEFITS ADMINISTRATORS INC.
Director(s) name(s):
ANTONIO FILATO
GILLES GELINEAU
ALAIN PICARD
MICHAEL S. WILLIAMSON
THOMAS A. ZAKRZEWSKI
LUCY J. PAGLIONE
WAYNE ELDON HANLEY
BERNARD ANDRE LOUIS CHRISTOPHE
PAUL MEINEMA
GORDY K. CANNADY
GILBERT MURRAY WHITLOCK

What's even more screwed up is The BC employees working for entities like PBAS and Local 247's E&T operations are represented by Ontario unions with no jurisdiction in BC. The E&T employee's union representation has always been pretty odd to say the least. It started with Ortlieb, Cliff's flunky, and has now fallen into the hands of an odd group of characters indeed.
