Hey everyone. I got some time to do the latest update to the board software, but it meant that all the old modifications and styles wouldn't work anymore. So, here you have the newest iteration of LabourTalk. Please let me know by Private Message if you run into any issues with the new styling. Some new features on the board are:

  • Latest HTML5 Responsive Styling - You can now see a new, more modern styling on the board. Along with this, you can resize the browser to see the board change with it. The board is now functional on all sizes of screens, including your cell phone, table and desktop/laptop.
  • Post Sharing - Although you could previously, the new layout means the sharing icons are more visible on the lower right hand corner of each post. Click your favourite social media outlet to share the desired post with them.
  • Multiple Themes - Previously there was only one theme in an attempt to lower the workload when modifications were put in place. Fortunately, the new modification system is much simpler to implement and we now have multiple colour options for you to enjoy. You can change these from your User Control Panel under the Board Settings heading.
  • Announcements - Announcements can now be posted here (where you're seeing this one) and, in most cases, can be dismissed. To dismiss them, please click the "X" in the top right corner of this box.
  • Collapsing Categories - Categories, such as News & Announcements or Welcome (below), can be collapsed to clear up some of the clutter. This state should be maintained as long as you're logged in.

We hope you like the changes!

Just like to mention to all of you scabs, that the union was aware of several scabs that belonged to other unions as well as twu, (nurse teacher, and one other)...these other unions were contacted with the scabs names, and at least one was contacted by the other union, and told to STOP SCABBING!....this member did comply.

A fine example of playground politics. Do what I say, or I'm telling mom on you.

Maybe Telus should replace "seniority" with "maturity" in their offer

I would offer that, given the TWU managed to find four instances in the last... what was it? - 24 years, of a union, any union, managing to have the CIRB uphold the Unions implementation of a ban on membership. This was also in four entirely separate Unions, in all of Canada... in 24 years?

Pile on top of that the fact that if the Union "blackballs" you, which despite their puffery is against about a dozen Acts, and yet manages to have you barred from entry in ALL Unions in Canada, you’re still only in about 17% of the private workforce in the country, so... sleep soundly.

this is not only a TWU mandate. Most unions abide by this. I would think that there are not many before that have crossed. This will be a new game.

No there is no magic "master list" of blackballed members from various unions. But what does happen is they look at your resume and see you were employed by Telus. They know Telus is unionized. They call the TWU and ask if you are a member in good standing or not. Simple as that.

What color is the sky in your world? In my previous life I had plenty of experiencing hiring, and not once did I ever consider contacting a union regarding a person's suitability. As a matter of fact, I can't recall ever having anybody ever use a union representative as a reference--although I'm sure it happens, it is not the norm.

Now let's say I was the owner of a Wimmsey's communications company, and I had just hired Mary Scab. Now the head of the WWU came to me and told me that I had to get rid of Mary because she was not a member in good standing with the TWU. My reaction would be "So what? She has good references from her former employer."

Also, I am wondering if blackballing is really the official position of the TWU or if it is just something some members have dreamed up to try to intimidate those who have crossed?

there are unions and jobs that would care about it. This person might get hired ....but will they be accepted into the union. ( which would open a whole can of worms and depend on the current relationship between union and employer)

I would like to see a scab Teamster work with the bunch.

Teamsters!! Yeah speaking of thugs, check out the teamster buddies of the twu on the twu website. Very nice looking fellows. And some people have the nerve to talk about afi goons. What a bunch of hypocrits.

Or it could have to do with the Teamsters own reputation of being militant thugs.
