Hey everyone. I got some time to do the latest update to the board software, but it meant that all the old modifications and styles wouldn't work anymore. So, here you have the newest iteration of LabourTalk. Please let me know by Private Message if you run into any issues with the new styling. Some new features on the board are:

  • Latest HTML5 Responsive Styling - You can now see a new, more modern styling on the board. Along with this, you can resize the browser to see the board change with it. The board is now functional on all sizes of screens, including your cell phone, table and desktop/laptop.
  • Post Sharing - Although you could previously, the new layout means the sharing icons are more visible on the lower right hand corner of each post. Click your favourite social media outlet to share the desired post with them.
  • Multiple Themes - Previously there was only one theme in an attempt to lower the workload when modifications were put in place. Fortunately, the new modification system is much simpler to implement and we now have multiple colour options for you to enjoy. You can change these from your User Control Panel under the Board Settings heading.
  • Announcements - Announcements can now be posted here (where you're seeing this one) and, in most cases, can be dismissed. To dismiss them, please click the "X" in the top right corner of this box.
  • Collapsing Categories - Categories, such as News & Announcements or Welcome (below), can be collapsed to clear up some of the clutter. This state should be maintained as long as you're logged in.

We hope you like the changes!

Kelowna is on fire - Betty Carassco tells us to think of our fellow brothers and sisters and offer support--Locals 50,51 & 60 are inviting their members on a cruise!
Well that's just wonderful!! How about Ontario, Montreal and the rest of Canada??
What about the massive buy outs-re-locations that are currently happening and have been going on for a long time? (no one has seen a union rep around on the shop floor, and if they have the rep isn't initiating any discussion.
Does this not show how out of touch the exec is? Maybe they are trying to tell us that there are people in this world worse off than us (no s**t),so we may as well go on a cruise because they don't have a clue what to do next. (Except collect money, our money!!) And do you bet they are not on holidays with their families while we sit in absolute confusion that the next hatchet to fall will fall on us and even if it has already fallen and we have said "no" to the buyouts or the company can/has reneged on the offer, do those fools think that we give a poop about their cruise or maybe some of our retired/not bros and sis's and their million dollar homes? I think we heard 3 homes were destroyed. Last time in 2003 there were 300 homes destroyed! Did Betty Carrasco plead for us to support the citizens there with such charity? Political opportunism Mrs. Carrasco!!! Where is George Doubt, John Carpenter, Sheryl Anderson,Isabelle Miller, Maria Zonie, and all the other trough suckers?
(by the way, this is not to make light of the situation in Kelowna just trying to put it in perspective as relating to the devastation to Telus/twu members)/

It is always better to live a life with humility. You never know when misfortune may fall upon you like a load of bricks....

It was said that pres. george doubt, stayed away from work when he was "having trouble" with Lila Hackett and forced her to retired. Then he came back to work. Sheryl Anderson, we heard, was off because she couldn't stand the way the twu exec was sqaundering our money. Now does that sound like a confident, no nonsense, team we want heading bargaining in 2010?? Who out of the twu exec. snake pit would be good at bargaining and get the best deal for twu members??
We are all greatly humbled because we have no confidence in the twu.
Twu members, at Telus, are going through turmoil. Not the twu exec, evidently. The way they are dealing with their own office workers (COPE) is a clear indication of the arrogance they possess. When Telus comes to the twu in 2010 with a collective agreement in hand for the twu to sign the twu will be on their knees, heads bowed, thanking Telus for making it so they can still retain their $80,000.00 + wages, +benefits + perks.

"What TWU is demanding of its employees would be outrageous in any labour dispute," Mark Leier told The Tyee. Leier, director of Simon Fraser University's Centre for Labour Studies and a long time observer of the Canadian labour movement, said, "The fact this is happening between unions, within the house of labour, makes the situation even more tragic."
We are so proud of you, TWU!!

"it was said" "we heard". That's a good way to start a statement of "facts". I haven't been on this site for years. Just dropped in to see what was going on and found good reason not to return.

Glad you piped in old friend, as usual I enjoyed your stay, some things just never change eh?.

You should go and help our latest member "Angry_Worker" down in the Automotive thread, he has discovered the joys that are unions and could use some of your special pro-union cheering up. He just finished walking the picket line and aggressively supporting the CAW who fought to get them their very first Collective Agreement and the CAW made sure it was folded five ways and all pointy before it got jammed up their collective arses.

We missed you.
