Hey everyone. I got some time to do the latest update to the board software, but it meant that all the old modifications and styles wouldn't work anymore. So, here you have the newest iteration of LabourTalk. Please let me know by Private Message if you run into any issues with the new styling. Some new features on the board are:

  • Latest HTML5 Responsive Styling - You can now see a new, more modern styling on the board. Along with this, you can resize the browser to see the board change with it. The board is now functional on all sizes of screens, including your cell phone, table and desktop/laptop.
  • Post Sharing - Although you could previously, the new layout means the sharing icons are more visible on the lower right hand corner of each post. Click your favourite social media outlet to share the desired post with them.
  • Multiple Themes - Previously there was only one theme in an attempt to lower the workload when modifications were put in place. Fortunately, the new modification system is much simpler to implement and we now have multiple colour options for you to enjoy. You can change these from your User Control Panel under the Board Settings heading.
  • Announcements - Announcements can now be posted here (where you're seeing this one) and, in most cases, can be dismissed. To dismiss them, please click the "X" in the top right corner of this box.
  • Collapsing Categories - Categories, such as News & Announcements or Welcome (below), can be collapsed to clear up some of the clutter. This state should be maintained as long as you're logged in.

We hope you like the changes!

Sorry W1,, none to offer. Back in 2005 before the lockout, a few of us in our local were talking about where the TWU was going and at that time, based on what we were being told, the Steelworkers looked the best to me. The constitution and local autonomy seemed a good match to the TWUs and we respected Ken Georgetti.
The TWU used to be respected as a moderate union and the contract language was held up as an example of good labour relations. It's really too bad the way this has turned out

I don't work for TELUS anymore, I get to sit on the sidelines and watch how things turn out.

Funny how apathy and stagnation are such strong pillars in the union support movement. If every worker was involved and reading and understanding, how long do you think it would take to decertify the TWU, or create a new more effective union.

If the USWA comes in, the contract language will be something on the far side of "moderate".

I doubt the contract would change any... there would just be a whole bunch of unionized workers permanently out of work...

What was a shame is that a bunch of great trade unionist got thrown out in a frenzy of uncontrollable vengeance without taking into consideration what would be left. We see it now. No respect for the twu on any level and a bunch of trough squatters running the show. It was a reason to oust any representative who even whispered that the executive of the twu explore what other unions had to offer the twu (not just steelworkers).
Now look what's happening. What a joke!!
Sitting on the sidelines may be a nice pass time - some of us will be living with these creatures , their antics and actions for a long time!!

W1, yes it was a shame that SOME good people lost their jobs but SOME bad people were tossed out as well. I won't debate the relative merits of them here, but Peter and Karen will be missed.

Peter? Karen? Did the people in the east or Alberta know these people?
If so why did they help to get rid of them if they were so honourabe? This doesn't make any sense. That is why the twu has no credibilty. The twu doesn't make any sense.

The real downfall of the TWU was not listening to the membership. If a vote had been taken on the offer, if the executive had accepted they were working for the membership, not controlling the membership, this union might have had a chance.

The current exec. hasn't had it right since then. Just more back biting, in fighting and bullying. We're all watching in disgust.
They are showing the world how not to run a union but how to ruin one!
(Are any of them at work or are they on holidays, sick time, banked over time, etc.etc.?)
