Hey everyone. I got some time to do the latest update to the board software, but it meant that all the old modifications and styles wouldn't work anymore. So, here you have the newest iteration of LabourTalk. Please let me know by Private Message if you run into any issues with the new styling. Some new features on the board are:

  • Latest HTML5 Responsive Styling - You can now see a new, more modern styling on the board. Along with this, you can resize the browser to see the board change with it. The board is now functional on all sizes of screens, including your cell phone, table and desktop/laptop.
  • Post Sharing - Although you could previously, the new layout means the sharing icons are more visible on the lower right hand corner of each post. Click your favourite social media outlet to share the desired post with them.
  • Multiple Themes - Previously there was only one theme in an attempt to lower the workload when modifications were put in place. Fortunately, the new modification system is much simpler to implement and we now have multiple colour options for you to enjoy. You can change these from your User Control Panel under the Board Settings heading.
  • Announcements - Announcements can now be posted here (where you're seeing this one) and, in most cases, can be dismissed. To dismiss them, please click the "X" in the top right corner of this box.
  • Collapsing Categories - Categories, such as News & Announcements or Welcome (below), can be collapsed to clear up some of the clutter. This state should be maintained as long as you're logged in.

We hope you like the changes!

DUES INCREASE

Postby wimpole1 » Wed Mar 31, 2010 7:41 am

April/May seems to be the months when the executive of the twu is going to have us vote on a dues increase!! Incredible as it seems they actually think this is going to pass. We have been telling everyone to get out and vote against this. If you have never been to a meeting in your life, make sure you get to this one and vote it down!!
Until the twu can prove itself fiscally responsible they aren't getting one more dime out of us.
They are having ANOTHER convention (party) at the end of April for 3 days!! What a bunch of b.s. They are going to discuss bargaining strategy!!
What a laugh. The company is just going nah-nah-nah-nah. What is the twu membership going to do? Strike? Walk out? Oh Puleez!
Also, the twu can also exercise it's right to take one days pay from us, which they will probably do.
Get out and show your anger at these incompetents. Go to this one meeting. Even if it is the only one you get to. Check your local meeting notices. Ask your union rep when your vote is happening. Don't miss it!

This is what you will be voting on......more money for the exec to blow!!!
Constitution Article 6 – 1 (b) be changed to read:

The membership dues of the Union shall be 2.1% of gross earnings per four (4) week period. The dues shall be allocated with 1.7% being paid to the Administration Account. The remaining 0.4% shall be allocated to the Benevolent Society.

it will be interesting to see if they get the new collective agreement negotiated before the end of the year so it will not get in the way of the Bell/Telus/Verizon merger.

Hard to know. I am hearing whispers and from sources pretty high up in the organization. Nothing is certain but I suspect strongly that somehting in the way of a merger is going to happen.

Rumours were rife last year , at TELUS and in Aliant and Bell but supposedly have fallen off. Talking to a highly manager last week, it's not one of Darrens priorities but supposedly he's looking at moving on. All I can say , looking from the outside now, is that TELUS seems to be pretty ;ow profile these days.

TELUS and Bell? LOL, yeah, I'm sure they'd get regulatory approval for THAT!

As soon as all the other wireless entries are up and running they will get regulatory approval.

not likely, there's still the landline side to consider.
I can be pretty certain that they'd never get approval for that, and TELUS and Bell both know it.

this thread is about the dues increase vote...Has anyone gone to the TWU website and looked at the "special" meetings coming up in April? They sure aren't letting this get out with much fan fare.. The twu does not want to risk any of us showing up and voting this treasure trough (sic) down. It has been snuck in. It was only brought to our attention at a meeting. They are not going to sucker punch us again!! Let everyone in on their little scheme. Get out and vote this dues increase down!! Come on, even the company is doing all their business by video conferencing and yet the slugs at the twu must spend OUR money on renting hotels and wining and dining (this time in Kelowna) for the most wasteful party, in the eyes of our members, that has ever been witnessed!
That is why no one is talking about it on the shop floor!! Even the most die hard delegate is ashamed of themself. But,,,they sure love the gravy train and in their minds they are VERY important!!!

Well maybe our moderator could transfer the TELUS merger threads to a new item and Wimpole can get back to his discussion??

The word must be getting out. Some locals are taking on the twu exec for this ridiculous cash grab and in some locals the local exec are even speaking out against the dues increase!! Now that is what unionism is about, not lofty ideas of self importance ,but the trust of the membership. These people that have risen to the height of their incompetence are (hopefully) to be totally trounced on by the silent majority!!
How dare they treat us with such disdain!
(We know they NEED the money to keep up their fancy life styles)

Has anyone heard the response to the voting for the dues increase for April? More meetings scheduled for May. Has the turn out been good or once more one of apathy? No one I know wants to go to the meetings. That usually means that the vote passes with flying colours. Any information?
